Android adaptive icons
Android uses adaptive icons with two layers: foreground and background. The system applies a mask chosen by the device manufacturer (circle, squircle, etc.). Keep critical content within the 66dp safe zone.
Design for smallest size first
Your icon must be recognizable at 20x20 px (notification size). Avoid fine text, thin lines, and complex details. Test at extreme sizes before finalizing your design.
Rounded corners are automatic
Both iOS and modern Android automatically apply rounded corners to icons. You don't need to export icons with rounded corners. Your source image should be a square with content that works within the safe zone.
